EMDR Therapy
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR therapy includes a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.
EMDR is different from traditional talk therapy as you do not have to talk about the distressing events you have experienced. Instead, it works with your brain’s natural healing abilities to lessen (desensitize) the negative memory by desensitizing the negative emotions and sensations that go along with the memory.
The effectiveness of EMDR has been studied through approximately 20 studies. It has shown to be effective for many issues such as:
Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
Depression
Grief and loss
Performance anxiety
PTSD and other trauma and stress-related issues
Sleep disturbance
Violence and abuse
Complicated grief
Dissociative disorders
Disturbing memories
Pain disorders
Addictions
Sexual and/or Physical abuse
Body dysmorphic disorders
Personality Disorders
