Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern
Director of Operations
Devin was born and raised in Southern California before relocating to Florida with his wife and two children. He has lived in Fernandina Beach since 2021. Devin is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern in the state of Florida, practicing under the supervision of a qualified licensed mental health professional, and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. He is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and trained in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.
Devin earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and is credentialed as a teacher in the state of Florida in the areas of secondary Social Sciences and English. Since moving to Florida, he has worked within the Nassau County school system as both a teacher and athletics coach, providing him with meaningful experience supporting children, adolescents, and families within school and community settings.
Prior to his career in counseling and education, Devin served in law enforcement in multiple roles, including patrol officer, detective, S.W.A.T. operator, and District Attorney investigator. Through this work, he developed a strong understanding of the cumulative stress, trauma exposure, and relational strain often experienced by first responders and public safety professionals. As a result, he is particularly passionate about supporting first responders, veterans, and their families, as well as individuals navigating high-stress occupations.
In his clinical work, Devin provides counseling services to adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He has experience and special interest in working with clients presenting with trauma and stress-related concerns, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges, occupational stress, and life transitions. When working with couples, Devin integrates Gottman Method–informed interventions to support healthy communication, conflict management, and relationship strengthening. His EMDR-informed approach supports clients processing distressing experiences in a structured, evidence-based manner.
While serving as a police officer, Devin was assigned to a joint task force composed of officers from multiple agencies and clinicians from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. These co-response teams functioned as mobile psychiatric and psychological crisis intervention units, providing on-scene mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, and coordination of wraparound services for individuals experiencing acute mental health needs in the community.
Outside of his professional work, Devin is an enthusiastic public speaker, educator, and small-group facilitator within his local church and community. He enjoys staying active and spending time with his family, including camping, beachcombing, traveling, and attending his daughter’s dance and cheer recitals.
